Description/Job Summary

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for balancing the supply and demand of all assigned inventory items while taking into consideration inventory carrying costs and make sure all purchasing and inventory goals for the Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions are met or exceeded. React to Production, Engineering and Marketing immediate demands, on hand balance changes, engineering changes and customer changes. “Lean Manufacturing” is the guiding philosophy.


  • Review MRP output daily to balance demand and supply of all assigned items. This includes making decision to release new purchase orders, expedite, defer or cancel parts on previously placed purchase orders, based on current inventory and demand.
  •  Coordinate the movement and tracking of subcontract activities to outsourced suppliers. Release and maintain subcontract purchase orders based on current inventory and demand. Order and manage VMI kits for outsourced products. Ensure parts are shipped/delivered on time to subcontract supplier. Keep track of and support ordering of supplier’s raw material when applicable.
  •  Follow up on purchase/subcontract orders already released to suppliers to meet delivery due dates and on time delivery goal. Maintain and update system to provide accurate and timely delivery due date for smooth production planning.
  •  Ensure the supplier has the latest revision drawings to build parts before placing order.
  •  Communicate to suppliers any Engineering change requirements when changes made to parts already released on purchase orders.
  •  Communicate unsourced part, cost changes, lead time changes and other purchase order discrepancy to the Strategic Purchaser/Sourcing Engineer.  
  •  Help resolve disposition of rejected material within three (3) working days.
  •  Resolve problem with Accounts Payable/Warehouse related to purchase orders/receiving.
  •  Ensure the disposition of obsolete and slow moving inventory monthly.
  •  Ensure that the part lead-time, order policy, safety stock, and all part parameters are followed for purchase order.
  •  Maintain open and effective communications with all personnel regarding supply problems and their resolutions.
  •  Review out of stock items and work with Strategic Purchaser/Sourcing Engineer to fulfil future demand.
  •  As required, participate on teams for new product development, inventory reduction, process improvement, etc.
  •  Communicate priorities to both suppliers and factory personnel.
  •  Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

Work experience 3-5 years in similar field or related industry.
APICS , CPSM  or Supply Chain Certification is a plus

Preferred Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
